We have recently purchased and installed two photocopiers into our IT suits to use as printers (Konica C280). As we always have with network printers, we have them connect via script through GPO when any user logs in in that room, and then the printer is removed when a user logs off. We do not however at this time want them being used as photocopiers as it will encourage people to just walk in and disturb a class. Also pupils will eventually get tempted to start pushing buttons on the copiers and who knows what chaos we’ll end up with! To prevent this I wish to lock the panels so that they cannot be used but users can still print from a computer. The user however is then required to input that into the printer properties, but as the printer is always disconnected and reconnected as a user logs in and out, the code is never stored on a fresh login. As I do not wish the pupils to know the code, let alone have to type it in after a fresh login I have had to leave the photocopier unlocked.

Strangely when I first tried locking them it worked. But suddenly one morning, one of them stopped accepting the print and I had to remove the code. The other copier is still functioning, but only from machines in that room. I have tried using the Printer Default settings on the server but it does not put the code in automatically.

And so the question I put to you all, does anyone know how I can have a user authentication code automatically deployed to the user within the printer settings?

Thanks in advance

This would be interesting to know too as we have the same problem. One kid managed to put 2 and 2 together and managed to real off photocopies of a document.

I have spoken to konica about this problem and there is no fix or solution to this... something which i think is needed if they are going to be placed in educational areas.

if you log on to the copier though the web,

Accounts and Trac.

General Settings

(These are mine settings which konica told me)

User aurth: On (MTP)

Public user access: On (with login)

(rest are defaults)

Now you want to add a user (this will lock the copier, (enter username and password)

User registration

New Reg,

Name:

passcode:

It dosnt matter what box its saved as.

Public User settings (this is settings for the computers)

Here you can change the settings. Limits colour, Scans, copys and so on.

Once done log off the website (it locks the copier)

Attached are the settings for print server.

Hope you can understand it. Bit of rush to write it down.
