Managed TV systems

Whats the best way to setup one of those neat site based TV solutions. e.g. having a TV that can run power points, videos etc. Allowing centralized management (e.g. from one PC we can control schedule).

 

The best way I have come up with is a dedicated separate PC running a webpage with this content over HDMI to a TV. But this solution seems error prone, monotonous, buggy, and ineffective. Maybe one of those raspberry pi's could do a similar task? But are there any vendor solutions? or any better ideas?

Have you looked at ClickView Live? There are also a number of open soure solutions about too

We use OneLan systems and although it was expensive it does the job and has saved us loads of time. It just works - which I guess is what you are paying for. GJE

XIBO its free just need an apache / mysql webserver to run it from and then place a small client with the xibo client installed with each screen, we have ours set to display various powerpoints / information about different parts of the school

We use a product called signage live. Its a web based solution that is quire inexpensive

Xibo - IMHO why pay so much money for something which can be achived for free and is actually really really good!

@glennda - I agree but this one time I felt that what the school wanted was better served by a commercial product such as OneLan.

 

Like I said in my previous post - it just worked and we were able to get on with other stuff.

Another free alternative to XIBO is MediaSignage, cloud based and just needs a tiny air app, also nice and easy to configure.
