[sims] SIMS Support for XP

The SIMS technical roadmap states that Capita support for SIMS on XP will end Summer 2013. Does anyone know if this means that any new SIMS upgrades will not be compatible with XP or that they wont support SIMS on XP anymore if you have issues?

They will probably still work for a while, but they will eventually write the app in a version of .net that is not compatible with XP. Then your stuffed.

We won't stop supporting schools on XP but if there are operating system related issues that don't occur on later systems we won't be trying to solve them.

To be fair though it would be silly to run XP after this point. MS would have stopped security updates etc.

Didn't they stop updates 2 years ago of there abouts? Win 7 uptake has been rather successful (acording to public feeling), certainy better that Vista... not that that was ever going to be hard to beat!

It has been confirmed .NET 4.5 will only be available to Windows 7 or later OSes. It won't be supported on XP or Vista.

 

.NET 4.5 will be bundled with Windows 8 and is scheduled for a July 2012 RTM. Mid 2013 is probably about the right time frame, as Windows 8 would of been out for a year.

April 2014 is when extended support for XP ends. Capita are 12months ahead.

I'm still hoping/waiting for you to enter the 21st century and provide an (open standard) web app so that we are not reliant on MS licenses and fixes. In 2012 the frontend for a database shouldn't require you to spend money supporting an operating system when you could support a handful of browsers. The competition are way ahead in this regard, ultimately they will save money themselves and get a larger customer basis as a result.

Count yourself lucky they actually use a DB behind the scenes, we are still dealing with an MS Access DB behind the schenes. You want to see antiquated, try a VB.net coded app that runs off a shared access DB. MUSAC FTL (For the loss).
