Counting Pictures 3 (Numbers, Words and Pictures 2)

Good Afternoon all,

 

I was wondering if any of you had installed Numbers, Words and Pictures 2 onto a windows 7 operating system? I look after many primary schools and cannot get this software to work correctly, it loads up fine, but as soon as you click on the counting pictures 3 icon, you get the load up screen come up but then goes no further.

 

I believe it may be a compatibility issue as it requires to run in 16bit format. I was just wondering if any of you knew a workaround?

If it is 16bit then it simply won't run under Windows 7 64 bit, you would need to run it in a virtual 32bit environment. Have you tried hasseling the software vendor, a lot of ours made updates to their earlier software to allow it to run.

Hi, the operating system is already running windows 7 32bit, I've tried locating an update by the power of google to no joy.

I think SYNAC is referring to the software being 16-bit rather than the OS. Win XP supported running 16-bit app's, but this has been removed since vista (I think, might be 7?). This is kinda like how a 64-bit OS can run 32-bit programs. Running it via XP mode may work? Otherwise running under a VM, or vendor updates may be your only options.

32bit Windows 7 should be alright as it does still inclued the 16bit stuff, its just the 64bit stuff that does not. I'm assuming you have tried running it in compatibility mode?

This may seem like a silly question, but how do you get it to run in compatability mode as I can't see it anywhere?

Right click on the shortcut and go to properties then the compatibility tab, this should give you the needed options.

Installed the latest Java and everything. The school use this software a lot. Is there a replacement?

Try uninstalling the Smart software. There is something with how it hooks into Windows with how the windows are drawn that causes specific pieces of older software to crash. This happens mainly with WJIII. My only solution for staff who wanted both pieces of software installed was to run WJIII in XP mode (Windows XP VM in Enterprise).

Was there any solution to this? I am currently working with a school that has this software and 50 machines they want to run it on, all running Windows 7. Does anyone have the solution or a suggestion of a newer, better piece of software?

Hi I know this maybe a bit late now. But I was having the same problem so I emailed the company and got this response. I am trying to find an alternative so if anyone has any ideas that would br great.

Unfortunately, this software isn't compatible with Windows 7.

 

There is no workaround that resolves this and no close match for an alternative in our range.

 

I'm very sorry that I can't provide better advice on this query.
