Whats the best free dvd burning software?

Depends what you want it to do? Writing files, Windows Vista/7 will do it natively.

cdburnerxp, imgburn and burnaware free are three that I have used in the past at home.

+1 to cdburnerxp and imgburn and I also use deepburner ( they have a free version ), although I have found cdburnerxp a bit more reliable at least for burning images etc

Ah yes i should have explained a bit more......

 

Im trying to burn a video file onto a dvd using XP.

There is DVD Flick --> DVD Flick

 

If you are just trying to burn it as data then cdburnerxp, if it is an ISO then imgburn or possibly cdburnerxp, if you are trying to convert it into a dvd format to play in a stand alone dvd player then dvd flick

Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 Free is the one I found and stuck to. Simple to use, never had any problems.

I'm trying to burn a video file onto a dvd using XP.

To burn data DVDs in XP without using any third-party software, you need to install the IMAPI v2 hotfix from Microsoft (KB932716).

The free version of NERO does DVDs i believe - Nero - CD DVD Burning, Video Editing Software, Backup Software - Official Site

CD Burner XP here too. Also btw if you need to convert videos to DVD format such that CD Burner XP will make a video DVD, check out Handbrake
