[sims] Fault code 1417-0204-3500 Help

have got a little problem with a machine. Everytime i run SIMS it pops up this error:

 

FAULT CODE: 1417-0204-3500

The specified module could not be found (exception from HRRESULT: 0x8007007E): System.IO.FileNotFoundException

 

Is anyone able to help me out please.

 

I have re-installed SIMS various amounts of times on this machine and still no luck.

 

It happens before the logon box, i was hoping it would be something simple.

Is there more detail available by clicking on the box? Usually it hints at a solution, like maybe which file it is looking for?

Do you have Full .Net 4, and permissions, drives, access to C right?

As @vikpaw said, try to get more detail to see if you can find out which file is missing.

 

Is your SIMS drive mapped to S: / E:?

Ive just imaged the PC back to how it was originally as i thought this was the easier case.

 

I tried the machine with full domain access rights and it was apparently working yesterday, so something over night had caused it to go wrong. There was also a list of strings which looked like code to me.

Did the re-image fix it.

I remember having a strange issue a while back and tracked it down to a similar fault code with no apparent solution. The string code list pointed at a problem with WMI and a fix on that sorted the issue.

Yeah, the re-image sorted it out. The teacher must have installed something on it by accident. We have to let teachers have local admin rights to their teacher machines otherwise SIMS doesn't update properly as we are still on SOLUS2.

 

Looking back, i should have copied the code down, i will do next time, if it happens again.

I have reinstall .NET 4, and SIMS but still not working. my SIMS drive is T:\

I had to re-image the machine as the user had somehow managed to install some crap on the machine. I suppose this is what happens when SIMS updates require users to have administrator access

Sims updates do not require the users to have admin rights. Capita have supplied a batch file called simsperm.bat which can be run against a user of a specified group to ensure the rights for users with sims access can perform upgrades to the client

Some file that windows needs is missing or corrupt. You could try a repair on windows.

Or try something like this to monitor during startup and see if it points to a particular file , probably a .dll or something basic that it needs to build the loginbox by the look of it.

Okay so got it working now. The problem is down to the way that SIMS now looks at the connect.ini with the new SIMSINST it will put the full server unc path instead of the mapped drive. After changing the connect.ini on the local machine to have the full server unc path it's stopped coming up with the error and i can get onto SIMS again.

That's odd. Does simsinst govern the format of connect.ini?

We just wrote our own. Mine still reference mapped drives, but i haven't looked at a reinstalled machine.

I'd have thought it's more likely to be that the drive was mapped under a different security context. Are you on Win 7?

Or, i think, on one occasion, it wasn't the mapped drive was at fault, it was some coding in Windows, that checks to see if the drive is mapped, that didn't work. That's why reimaging works.

I'd be interested to know if this affects all of your machines, and whether on a new image, clean install, you can use a mapped drive or not.

SIMSperm works a treat. Didn't know this existed and had staff added to the local administrators group.
