Request - Mouse for an A4000

Does anyone have a mouse for an old Acorn 4000 that I can have please? One of the teachers here has brought one in and he wants to get it working for a computing lesson. It has a rodent but it doesn't work properly. Failing that, does anyone know if a serial mouse would work on it? It does have a connected RS232 port by the looks of it.

I will search through the cupboard at school. There was one of these beasts in regular use when I arrived 2 years ago! I'm not sure what happened to it.

Having chatted with the caretaker, it is believed the remnants of the Acorn machine are in the shed! We will try to excavate it!

open the old rodent up they are simple inside just an led shining through a spindle thingy ...if its already broken you cant break it even worse an you neve rknwo you might fix it

I've had a look inside already, nothing looked obviously wrong. Trouble is, I don't have any spare parts so I can't even attempt to repair it.

The RS232 mouse will not work on the older Acorns like the A5000 and A4000 because there is no RS232 mouse driver support in RISCOS 3.1.

 

You can get new or a refurbished Acorn 9 pin Bus mouse from http://www.cjemicros.co.uk/ they also do PC PS/2 mouse adapters.

 

Or just Bin the acorn and get a acorn emulator from http://www.virtualacorn.co.uk/
