Fragile ISPs

Well NZs internet as I am sure I have told you all before is rubbish.

 

I write this teathered through my phone as another example has reared its ugly head. Some idiot cut a fibre somewhere in South Auckland, I think I even know where - I I could be sure I'd go and yell at the rail contractors.

 

At any rate, this single bundle of fibre has managed to cut internet access to a rather large chunk of Auckland:

Customers hosted off the following exchanges will have no voice or data

connectivity due to a fibre cut in South Auckland:

I think it is just my ISP but it just goes to show that even with the low speed and high price they still can't offer redundancy or reliablilty anything like what they imply.

 

They have obviously still not learnt their lesson from when 1/8th of the population was cut off from the internet and phones thanks to some rats chewing through a cable in a bridge.

Well it can't have been to bad, as they managed to fix it inside five hours, still annoying though.
