andyturpie Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Morning all, Need advice on obtaining a SSL cert for our school domain which we are getting a portal set up to allow teacher and pupils to upload and download files from their personal areas via a browser. I have been told that schools can get a free cert from certain companies - what's the best way to procede?
techie08 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 (edited) Im also looking at a Free SSL cert from somewhere, not sure where others get theirs from? Edited May 24, 2012 by techie08
nickbro Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Or if your school/la is signed up to JA.net, you can get a free SSL through them: Janet Certificate Service
penfold_99 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I would avoid a lot of the free ones as there trust is being eroded, there are still some that are trusted but the list is getting shorter. Janet uses comodo certificates but comodo have a stint through resellers/partners of issuing certificate for gmail.com and google.com to the wrong people. (no connection to janet) I would look at the issue company and decide if they are trust worth and have good verification process in place.
