I'm generating steadily more Install_App GPOs. Would I be better combining these into Install_CoreApps or Install_MathsApps so the PCs are applying less Policies, or does it not matter?

Core software is rolled into one here, as everywhere wants Flash etc.

Other than that, separate, sometimes you get a request for a certain package to be added to a certain room when (e.g.) Maths have booked out a lab, and you don't want it to install half a dozen other unnecessary packages as well. If everything is separate it's not a problem.

It's OK to group some MSIs to deploy (such as Flash Active X and Flash Plugin), as typically you'd update these at the same time every other month.

It's a difficult question to answer however, because at the end of the day it's you managing it all. I probably wouldn't include anymore than 5 MSIs per GPO personally, but again, it depends how big and complex your network is.

Sometimes splitting GPOs (especially deploying over wireless helps), so you can link a GPO one week, then link another the following week.
