iTunes on all PCs

I've been asked about putting iTunes on all PCs so that people can access iTunes-U. From what I can tell, this wouldn't work as each installation would need to be registered to an iTunes account, and you can only register 5 computers per account.

 

Since the videos all seem to be DRM-free and in non-proprietary formats, I'm thinking I could install iTunes on the Staff Room computers and then have people download the iTunes-U videos from those computers and copy them to a shared area.

 

Is there a better way?

Thats not correct. To install it no account is required.

 

I think you are allowed to install itunes network wide due to licensing

There are no licence issues for iTunes on a school network. Below is an extract from an email I had from Apple when asking them just such a question.

 

Dear Steve,

 

Thank you for contacting iTunes Store Customer Support. I'm Bernardita, I'll be the one assisting you today. I understand that you want to know if you can install iTunes in a network computer in your school so your music teacher will be able to present his iTunes purchases in your school via projector. I can certainly appreciate how eager you must be for answers, and I will provide as much information for you as I can.

 

Yes you may, you can install iTunes for as many computers as you can in your school. However, please inform your music teacher that in order for him to play his purchases on your school's computers, he needs to authorize those computers using his iTunes account and the maximum authorization that are allowable is up to five computers only.

Have you speced the extra gig of RAM and SSD for every station so that the same computer performance level is maintained after it is installed

You certainly can with the free videos, I haven't tried with a paid-for yet though.
