Japtastic Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Hi Chaps, Having a bit of a brain block with this! I've got a shared printer on our ADMIN server that the teachers on the curriculum network connect to. Problem is that it will, on a very regular basis tell them that access is denied. The only way to resolve this is to browse to the admin server and input a admin server user name and password then it all springs in to life. I have tried adding the details to Stored Usernames and Password in control panel which appears to work more or less for users that always use the same PC but for roaming users this doesn't stick. I've looked into trusted domains but apprently this can't be done between Server 2003 standard and SBS 2008. Any chance of a little help please?
pete Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Is there any reason you can't share the printer from a curriculum server as well? That's the simplest fix requiring zero user input (assuming you're restricting your printers via security groups/some other method).
Michael Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 I agree with Pete - for example on your admin server, the printer IP may be 192.168.1.20 for example. It's perfectly safe to re-create the printer on the curric server (maybe with a different sharename), but point it to the same IP. Of course I'm guessing your two domains are on the same IP range? If yes, then it'll work.

If yes, then it'll work. Or if they're not, you could fit another NIC into your Curriculum server with an admin network IP address and then you can add the printer to that server and share it out that way (this is what I've done with a few crossover printers for ease of networking).
Japtastic Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 Thanks, I did try that a while ago but there was some issue which I can't remember. Will try that method again and let you know the error.
Patrickv Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Do you have a teachers group on your domain, if you do then it added then it to printer will stop prompting you for a password. That's my stand normal printer configuration standards for normal cases.
Japtastic Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 All resolved. Added it to the Curriculum server again and had the same strange issues when I last tried it but updated drivers sorted it. Thanks for your help chaps.
