Wireless HDMI in Classrooms?

Hey everybody :-)

 

Our principle is currently very keen for all teachers to be able to display there laptop displays onto the whiteboard wirelessly. Do you have any ideas of how we may do this in a school, with 20 odd classrooms? It would need to be easy for different teacher laptops to access the same projector (on seperate occasions).

 

Thanks for your help, I understand this may be quiet difficult to do. However our projectors do support HDMI which would be half the battle. We would be looking at using the Wifi in order to display from the laptop, so as to avoid any 3rd party hardware add-ons. Obviously as well any wireless broadcasting from the laptop would need to be a decent compression. Ideally as well this solution would support Windows/MAC OS and iPad.

 

Personally I don't think it would work well, what experiences or knowledge do you have in this area?

eBay. It arrived last week and is another brand (can't remember of the top of my head) but trials with an android phone and an iPhone are impressive.

 

Another benefit is when used in conjunction with the phones cameras you get mobile visualisers. Very exciting.

Is it going to work well if every classroom had one of them? as from what I see it seems to be designed mainly for home use and for one TV. What would be perfect is the whole school could be kitted out with this technology with one reciever in each room. Then hopefully we can have a random teacher come in to a classroom with there laptop, select a classroom reciever from a list (does the client software do this?) and then type in a password and voila. Looks interesting though what you have linked, if it could work well like this then it may well be worth buying a couple for trial.

Good question, we haven't got that far as yet. The iPhone & Android App interface is trying to replicate the Apple TV in that you get a list of servers to choose from to transmit. We have only had a quick look at the McTivia web interface and the App settings. We are waiting for our 10" Android tablets to complete our trials. We have however found an issue with the App in that it currently doesn't send audio. So a YouTube video is sent with decent frame-rate to the projector but the audio comes from your handheld device which is a bit of a major issue. We are emailing the developers to see if it is work in progress.

if you are looking for wireless connection then watch out for the delay and quality. WHDI technology (wireless HDMI) may do the work for you. check whdi website.

Can you replace the projectors, the Epson ones with network ports as you can project with sound from a laptop quite easily.

No ipad stuff yet but it works quite well.

The critical thing is to define your needs. If you want to be able to show wirelessly a simple presentation this is easier, and there are nice solutions for it. but being able to mirror your screen, including showing movies, animation, and any other content + sending the audio, and all in good quality and low delay, it is a different story.
