Hi all

I wonder if anyone has had any luck getting Apple TV working without entering the proxy settings?

We are currently two weeks into our" iPads in the classroom" trails, 30 students and 16+ teachers are all using them successfully.

Our main problem is the Apple TV. We have purchase a lovely new HDMI projector, installed a transparent proxy onto a new server and still cannot get a 'digital handshake' for https traffic. I am hearing a lot about 'Bonjour' but am not sure if that will help as we are using an LA proxy to access the internet, for which, of course they will not give us the IP address.

I have also been told that to get it to work we will need to get our own independent IP address that does not need a proxy.

If anyone has any ideas, please please let me know.

Much appreciated

What exactly isn't working on the ATV for you?

On Proxy issues:

If you can restrict your transparent proxy to only pass traffic from the ATVs then you ought to be able to seek from your RBC the ability for the Transparent Proxy Host to bypass the LA proxy, or maybe just the authentication requirements.

When I have needed to bypass the RBC/LA proxy in the past it has required explicit, evidenced authorisation from the head teacher, for understandable reasons.

In my experience of Apple TV's within a schools network they are unable to access the network. What I have done is taken the Aplle TV home to update it, then brought it back to school to use. If your iPad can't see the Apple TV then this could be down to bonjour. Take a look at our school's iPad blog for information on getting an Ipad to talk to an Apple TV on a Meru wireless network. The same issues may occur with other vendors wireless networks. http://www.mountbatten.hants.sch.uk/blog/ipad
