RM CC4 on HyperV ?

Hi,

 

Am looking into (finally) virtualising the servers here, and just wanted to ask if anyone out there is using HyperV with CC4 running happily on it, and whether they have any comments on it ? RM are still using VMWare, but there is money to be saved...

There's no reason it shouldn't work, but my experience with RM is that if you don't use the 'supported' method, they will use it as an excuse to shift blame if anything goes wrong with your network (even if the problem is clearly unrelated to virtualisation).

In all fairness that's the Microsoft, Dell, HP and et als default stance not just RM.

RM take it to extremes. My experience of Microsoft is they will only try to blame problems on your kit if it's at least vaguely relevant to the problem. RM literally told me my entire CC3 setup would be unsupported if I used any NAS for storage except the overpriced one they wanted to sell me.

so that aside, any people actually using it on Hyper-V ?

 

to be fair to RM, they do seem a bit more 'flexible' that they have been in the past...

We are running CC4 on our own ESX setup hosts and SAN not supplied by RM and have not had an issue with support or having them commission new virtual servers on our setup. I recon you will be fine in terms of support as long as you recognise its your responsibility to resolve issues pertaining to the virtual environment, commissioning of new RM servers on hyper-v may be an issue as I don’t believe this is a platform they are trained on however.
