s2s connection post leaving Link2ICT

Looking at the consequences of leaving Link2ICT as our ISP and would like to ask anyone in the region that has moved already or is in the process of moving away, how did you or plan to continue with the FTP and Data Extract elements over the DFEs s2s connection?

 

All the other services are easily worked around but I haven't seen anything on how the secure data extraction works post moving ISPs

 

I posted this here as I'm particularly interested in how Birmingham schools have done this but solutions from other areas would be of value too.

According to other BGFL schools on Edugeek, BGFL implement a VPN type solution to allow you to continue to submit/receive data.

Unfortunately, Link2ICT are not able to offer a VPN solution for Data Transfer - which is why there is mention of the S2S website elsewhere. I would suggest that schools contact the relevant people within the Local Authority to see what they recommend.

 

I would also be interested in hearing how other schools across the country transfer their data.

It may be worth looking at a different LEA ISP provider for the s2s connection. We have our SIMs Parent Gateway via a different LEA so may be possible to extend a connection for Data extraction.

Apologies alan-d, it appears some but not all services can be provided using VPN.

I'm currently talking to all the relevant people within the Local Authority regarding data, it is becoming less of an issue with new web based soloutions which work on any connection.

We are moving to Progresso(Serco Direct) so the pupil data etc will through that, just clarifing finance now.

It's looking highly likely that we will move all services now as why pay for a service you can only use part of.

I assume you loose all the Service Desk support from L2ICT if you move to another ISP?

After just having the quote to upgrade to 100mb broadband with Link2ICT my boss has asked me to look into the cost and implications of moving to a different supplier...

We have stayed for the time being. Project put on the back-burner for a while.
