themightymrp Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Can anyone offer a quick solution to this one: Back in February I implemented VLAN's on our network and all is running fine. That is apart from... whenever I want to join a PC to the domain I am having to write the domain name as domain.local - I never had to do this is the past, just the domain name itself would suffice. Now it needs the .local ??? The DHCP kicks out the correct IP/subnet/GW/DNS settings and the DNS suffix search order has my domain.local listed, just like I used to have it. Its only a minor niggle but its getting on my nerves as some of my XP ghost images that were sysprepped are stopping when they reach the join domain section
themightymrp Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 Never mind - apparently this is correct behaviour. Trying to resolve the domain name without putting .LOCAL is making it use NETBIOS name resolution. This wouldn't find the server if it's in a different VLAN unless I had a WINS server configured (not bloody likely!). In essence, always use the FQDN of the domain to save any hassles. Must remember that for any future sysprep answer files!!!
