Our teachers have been told that they are allowed to have full copies of the Smartboard software and serial keys to install on their home pc's by an outside training company.

Is this correct?

I generally install Smart Notebook on master images, so all staff are using the same version on their workstations in school and on their teacher notebooks when they take it home. This allows them to create notebook files ready for the following week for example.

I can't see it being a problem as you can register on Smart's website as anyone and they'll send you a serial number. Never quite undertstood the point of it.

We dont supply staff with laptops so this is why they have been told to install it themselves. Wanted to check the situation as i know trainers dont always tell the truth.

I suppose you could always contact Smart themselves just to be double sure.

What's to stop you using your existing school Smart software/serial, which would of come bundled on a CD-ROM?

From the EULA

How many computers can I install SMART Notebook software on at my school?

You can install SMART Notebook software on an unlimited number of computers that your school owns and operates [section 2.2(a)]. It can also be installed on computers not controlled by the school as long as the user who controls the computer is associated with that school and the software isn’t being used on a competitor’s product.
