Windows 7 permission error

Hi,

 

Trying to update the client pc's to windows 7. Whenever a non administrative user tries to copy a file to a usb device we get the following error "windows 7 you'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file network"

 

I have disabled UAC with no effect?

 

Any ideas?

Is this a domain connected workstation? Windows 7 and 2008/2008 R2?

I ran into a similar issue UAC was disabled/enabled, but the registry key wasn't changing accordingly, and I ended up having to edit the value.

Just checking: Is the USB stick formatted as NTFS? If so, does it have file permissions set to allow non-admins to write to it.

Its a 2008 r2 domain and the workstation is windows 7 32 enterprise with roaming profiles. I created a shortcut to UAC and its off.

Its formatted as fat32 and can delete on other computers.

Do you get this error because you're trying to copy from a network/mapped drive to usb?

No, if a file is already on there it happens

Is it just one USB device or have you tried with several different models? Is it just the one Windows 7 machine?

If you disconnect the workstation from the domain (properly demote it to a workgroup) and test a USB stick as a local admin and then a local standard user, does this work?

 

If yes, re-promote the workstation to the domain, but create a separate test OU with little or no GPOs applied. If no, then it could well be registry corruption/permissions problem or a system file problem. As all your workstations are from the same image, it would explain why they all have the same problems!
