Applying Quotas to Multiple user folders from parent using DFS-R

Hello everyone,

 

I have an interesting issue that I cannot work out for the life of me!

 

I have the following folder setup on one of my file servers for user's home drives: \\SERVER-01\Users\%USERNAME%

 

I have also got DFS replication between this file server and another for these home drives with the following path: \\DOMAIN\Data\Users\%USERNAME%

 

My problem is that if I setup an auto apply quota on the parent folder for the home drives (Users), the quota does not get applied to each of the folders. This happens when both mapping to \\SERVER-01\Users\%USERNAME% as well as mapping to \\DOMAIN\Data\Users\%USERNAME%

 

I have other shares that I replicate using DFS and they have quotas such as: \\SERVER-01\Apps - \\DOMAIN\Data\Apps and the quota for this share is working as it should.

 

Any help would be appreciated!

First off, there is an option to auto apply quotas to subfolders that needs to be used so that new user accounts get the quota applied.

 

Where your using DFSR, you need to create a quota template and auto apply it on all of the replication partners.

Thanks for your quick response. I have set the option to apply the quotas to the subfolders as well as create a quota template and auto apply that on the replication partner.

 

My setup is a follows:

 

Server-01:

Users Home Directories local path: D:\Users\%USERNAME%

Users Home Directories shared path: \\Server-01\Users\%USERNAME%

Server-02:

Users Home Directories local path: C:\Users\%USERNAME%

Users Home Directories shared path: \\Server-02\Users\%USERNAME%

DFS:

Namespace: \\DOMAIN\DATA

Folder: Users

Path: \\DOMAIN\DATA\USERS\%USERNAME%

 

I still cannot work out what is going on with this and why it is not working the way that I want it to!

To further add to reply above:

 

If I map to \\Server-01\%USERNAME% or \\DOMAIN\DATA\%USERNAME% the quota is applied. However, if I map to \\Server-01\Users\%USERNAME% or \\DOMAIN\DATA\Users\%USERNAME% the quota is not applied.

 

Like above the folder structure on the file servers is: D:\Users\%USERNAME% with D:\Users shared on Server-01

: C:\Users\%USERNAME% with D:\Users shared on Server-02

 

Folder targets have been added to DFS for the above shares and replication added which is working properly - just the quotas that wont't work!

Hi,

 

I have finally solved the issue after doing some more research - The quotas are auto applying but it has something do with the SMB 1.0 protocol in server 2003 r2 not being able to show the used/free space when using the auto-apply quota option.
