i don't know... 1 for a core switch doesn't say 'overkill', its says 'expandable'

 

Its very expandable and versatile (which is why I have two! although the second hasn't gone into production yet), Its just in the case of for such a small network (sub 400 devices) and small budget.

Also consider what you could do to divide you physical space up between you and the servers i.e. could a partition wall be install in you office space. My personnel view it should be possible to run all schools in 42u of rack space. Edited April 13, 2012 by nicholab

It's better to get a core switch you can expand on in future that's a bit more expensive than to get something lesser that only just meets capacity now and has to be replaced 1-2 years later imo

But a stackable switch is just as adaptable in 2/3 years time as you get get another switch and add to the stack!
