I am planning to start my PHD

i need some help on the hot topics nowadays

 

My Areas of interest are

 

Cloud Computing

Information Systems

Networking & Servers

 

I don't want too complicated or technical which requires programming etc

Please suggest some topics on which i can find some good material for research as well

PHD in what, if its CompSci I doubt you'd get far without some demo code or compelling maths.

- dangers of idiots following the marketing line right off a cliff as they are not using it properly

- non relational databases and scaleability - twitter etc.

Networks

- deployment issues and sucesses with IPv6

 

Honestly is this not what you have a PHD advisor for.

Why not do a topic that covers two areas?

 

human computer interfacing and its effect on society - eg how Facebook, tumblr, 9gag, redhat etc effect people.

My understanding of the PhD process was that you applied to do a PhD within one of the research groups at a University and then the topic of your PhD thesis was decided on jointly by you and your PhD advisor. Certainly all the people I've known to go on to do a PhD didn't know the topic of their thesis when they started, and was really during the first year that it came together.

 

Just remember that a PhD thesis has to be original and make a "significant contribution" to the state of the art. One of the many reasons you have to talk through your topic and ideas with a PhD advisor. Also just because you think you've come up with a great idea for a thesis doesn't mean your going to get funding for it

i totally agree with you Soulfish

but i will be pursuing my PHD online thus i dont have an advisor yet

i will have to prepare a proposal to be sent to the universities offering PHD program and then we will proceed

so i am just narrowing my research areas

I am more interested towards

IT and Management

etc

A study on the impact of transfer from ITIL v2 to ITIL v3 and whether the investment was effective? I know it has been done before but, IIRC, that was by commercial companies or via sponsored research. You could look at equivalent changes of any processes ... AGILE, LEAN, etc ...

Swarm computing and distributed intelligence are pretty hot these days too. They grew out of the complex systems area in the late 90's and are now finding applications in the military and robotics areas.

 

Also, if you are into cloud computing, why not look at the Bitcoin phenomenon, that could have a bunch of colud applications as well as being a hot *hot* topic
