Whole School and Computer Audit

Hi all,

 

We are shortly going to be whole school audited by Lancashire County Council including a computer audit.

 

This will be the first time we will have been audited since I started work here.

 

What can I expect?

Is it a software or hardware audit? or both?

Every audit we have had they just wanted to see a list of equipment by room.

I just print off a report from Spiceworks and order it by room which seems to suffice. I also throw in our list of recycled equipment and WEEE certs for good measure.

You can expect your asset list to be inspected and compared to reality (ie. if it says PC745 is in Room 4C then it should be etc...).

 

You can also expect your purchasing procedures such as 3 quotes etc... to be checked to make sure you've been following procedures for procurement.

 

Licenses will probably be checked too, so comparing the number of licenses you have on record to the reality of what you've got.

 

Expect many, many problems to be found - even with vigilance, it is very difficult to keep everything perfect in a school as everyone else is busy moving things around etc...

Guess it depends on who is doing the auditing. I have never experienced anything as through as @localzuk - the financial stuff has always been pretty heavy but the IT stuff always been light. Licences or procurement procedure have never been looked at.

Yup. Last audit I had also looked at our disaster recovery, backups and policies etc... Gave some ridiculous recommendations about replacing our D2D2D solution with tape only, with an onsite fireproof safe, until I explained the problems with his suggestion!

These are all good suggestions so far. I have no idea how in depth this will be but I want to ensure I have prepared properly for it.
