Does anyone use Text Help Read&Write 10 on a network?

We've just bought this and need to install it across our network.

Has anyone got any tips, know of any problems etc.

Hoping to do a test install to a couple of pc's first but not sure whether to go for 'managed users' (settings saved to a central location) or 'unmanaged users' where settings are saved locally.

Any comments welcomed!

Thanks in advance.

use the managed users it gives you more flexability and you can control from a central point toolbars etc it works on a profile type basis and you can add different profiles to different users (thats bad english)

we have just set this up also

we set up a share on a mapped drive

set permissions accordingly

and away it went

no problems with the install for xp

if using windows 7 we had a problem with the prediction part stopping after about 4 or 5 words

if you come across this

you need to look in hkey current user

control panel

desktop

look for low level hooks timeout

set to decimal 10000

after i applied that it has been fine.

Thanks Round2It for helping! As Round2It explained, a Managed User installation allows user settings to be saved in a central location (eg a shared folder on a server) and using the Teacher's Toolkit, these settings can changed or Activity Logs can be viewed. An Unmanaged User setup does not use the Toolkit or save User Settings to a folder. They are just saved in the student's Window's profile. The_Oracle, if you need any further assistance, please email us at support @ texthelp.com and we can advise you further.

Regarding the prediction issue that Round2It described, if you restart the PC after installation you shouldn't have to edit the registry. Let me know if you have any issues.

restarting did not fix it and it was a bug that tech support could replicate very quickly i might add

Hi round2it

That is interesting that a restart didn't resolve it as it has fixed it for the couple of similar issues we have had with Prediction. If you would like to contact me directly I can remote into one of your machines and investigate this further. Please email me at eimear @ texthelp.com with your serial number and any technical contact at your site so I can arrange this.

Thank you
