How much bandwidth does a VPN connection use?

Here at Hogwarts we had a bog standard broadband line put in for admin staff so they could vpn into school and still use SIMS etc.

We've just recieved a letter from them saying that they are no longer using a fair usage policy and are going to give us 50GB a month and then charge us more after that.

Would that be ok for what we do?

Sorry but its as simple as how much data you transfer over the VPN (plus a small amount for overhead). if you are copying 2gb files daily you can eat a lot quite quickly. if however its only RDP traffic its not a huge amount (depending on number of users!)

If you're literally RDPing in, then 50GB should be plenty - however, as above, all depends how many users and how long are they connected for.

Sweet, i did think as much. Was just worried if there was something i wasnt thinking about.

There's two of them and they are on most of the day, but there isnt really any file transfering.

Thanks! :)

Just be aware that you can now walk away from your contract without penalty, just in case there are better offers around ;)
