Non overlapping channels

Can someone just confirm what the recommended channels are for use in the UK, please?

That's the WiFi channel overlap, for referance.

 

 

Wi-Fi channels 1, 6, 11, or 2, 7, 12, or 3, 8, 13 or 4, 9, 14 (if allowed) or 5, 10 (and possibly 14 if allowed) can be used together as sets. Often WiFi routers are set to channel 6 as the default, and therefore the set of channels 1, 6 and 11 is possibly the most widely used.

you can use 1, 5, 9, 13 in a greenfield site (i.e none of your neighbours are using 1,6,11) and you disable the 1, 2, 5.5 and 11mbps data rates. 1, 2, 5.5 and 11mbps data rates modulate across 22Mhz of bandwidth, whereas the 802.11g data rates only use 20Mhz.

1,5,9,13 are the UK Spec but you'll find most laptops come with U.S wifi adapters that can't see channel 13 and you loose your connection.

the exception is if you are using 40MHz wide channels in which case you cant avoid if you have more than 1 AP

 

generally this is bad practice though but I've seen it done many times!
