Server for server 2008 RD setup

Wondering what server is adequate for about 20 thinclients.

 

Also wonder whether virtualisation is preferred to physical

Either should be fine for a small setup like this.

 

8 GB ram Quad cores CPU's and hard drive space depends on how many apps you will have installed.

You can go Virtual if you have that kind of thing setup.

 

If you want to go Physical you will probably want 2 as failover.

Out of curiosity waht sort of backup recovery precautions would you use with virtual?

Depends on the Server. For RDS i just have a image i backup. Domain Controllers are backed up the ususal way.

We use a core 2 duo pc for our current remote desktop server and it works fine. 30 teachers using SIMS to do a register all at once over wifi. It is getting upgraded to a dual core xeon. Depends what you are using the RDP server for

I neglected this question. Bit busy.

 

I was originally looking at the DL165, the models I see have different CPUs one is 6128 other 6128HE other 6136

 

Anyway looking at VDI in box I have to get lots more RAM and poss another CPU.

 

If I was to just use RDP how much RAM and CPU power would I be looking at for 10 thinclients?

What is it that you want to do with these thin clients?

 

We have a Citrix VDI-in-a-box setup here as well and would be more than happy to run you through it.

The thing being, I want to get a server bought.... its like Brwsters Millions here today! I feel if I dont buy somamt the money will be lots forever. I feel like Richard Pryor!

 

If I price up the server for VDI its a completly different spec to one that will just be RDP capable.

 

So am looking at that same DL165, but a spec for running VDI and a spec for just running RDP.

 

10 clients either way

 

Then I could have an idea of which way to go.

 

Currently I dont know how much RAM HDD or CPU cores for RDP, but I do know I need maybe 16 cores for VDI, with possibility of additions laters, but not too sure on RAM or HDD for vdi.

Another thing is it better to push boat out and get Dl385
