[fog] Creating a base image for multi-platform image

Hello all, i'm looking to use fog to roll out images to multiple types of hardware.

 

I saw this guide

But am confused (as is one of the commentors) on the point of repeating the imaging steps for each hardware, surely the idea is to have one image and use driver scripts to roll drivers out?

 

Anyway i have a complete working image at the moment and wondered if i could remove certain drivers to make it possible to put on different hardware?

I tried removing audio and video drivers, what else might be important (it is still bluescreening on windows start at the moment)

then this is the guide you need (I personally use/prefer virtualbox) Windows 7 Deployment FOG- SAD2 Driver tool > FOG Forums > Open Source Computer Cloning Solution

The old ghost method involved using sysprep with the -pnp option which wipes out the plug and play driver database and forces windows to re scan all hardware on first boot, combined that with adding the drivers to the windows dir and an image should be compatible with a few different types of hardware.

What OS are you planning on deploying?

Try following this Vernalex.com - Welcome which uses driverpacks to have pretty much every driver conceivable in your image, it's what I'm following at the moment. Also if your blue screening on startup is the error 7b? If so, it's likely a HAL issue, this is also covered.

How many different hardware configurations are you planning to deploy WinXP to?

It's for staff laptops, we have 7 models of laptop in circulation, going back as far as 2006 and from dell, stone, RM and toshiba

Ancient Method: You may find it easier to build hardware specific images.

 

Over a wide range of hardware, you'll struggle to get a single image that will work. If they were very similar models, you may get away with it.
