Bananas Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I don't suppose anyone knows contact details for manufacturers/suppliers so we can get some tablets in on trial? I've got a Toshiba one in to play with but i'd be interested in getting stuff in from other companies to play around with too find the best solution. Toshiba are using the Avantis Learnpad software to lock the tablets down and we've got a demo of that at the same time. If anyone has any contact details for suppliers/manufacturers that will send out demo units i'd be grateful for them. Thanks
mikkydoos Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I've got some Archos G9's coming in today. £165.00 from Misco.co.uk Android 3.2 Honeycomb, 250Gb SSD, dual core CPU, 10.1" screen. Cant wait for 'em ; )

Bananas Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 I have the 101 G9 8GB at home cost me a fair whack more than that but it's a very nice tablet. I presume that is a purchase rather than a trial though? I quite like the Toshiba AT100 I have here, i'll be interested to compare with the AT200 when that comes in soon. LOVE the Avantis Learnpad software although am still getting to grips with it but, very simple and keeps the kids OUT of the stuff you don't want them in too!!
mikkydoos Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 They were a purchase yep. Few schools near us (Birmingham) have been given Apple Ipads for free / trial. Might be worth speaking to them if you want Apples. Mind you, one of them had their delivery of 30 pinched over the xmas hols - ouch! Do they still have them? I can't see them anywhere Speak to Matt Smith 0808 181 6853 He got some in for me as a special. Mention Mike from Rookery Sch.

mikkydoos Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) £193 ex VAT. Misco do the 8" screen version for £165. With the latest updates, the machine is brilliant. Loads of improvements, especially the front end visuals and screen responsiveness. AND... I FOUND WHERE THE PROXY SETTINGS ARE :) :) That only took me 2 days lol. I'm well impressed This might of use to a few of you.. http://www.techradar.com/news/mobile-computing/tablets/how-to-make-android-child-friendly-1045708 Edited March 12, 2012 by mikkydoos
Dos_Box Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Now that is worth sharing! Where are the proxy settings in Ice Cream Sandwich? As Android and proxies is something of a historical subject on here. £193 ex VAT. Misco do the 8" screen version for £165. With the latest updates, the machine is brilliant. Loads of improvements, especially the front end visuals and screen responsiveness. AND... I FOUND WHERE THE PROXY SETTINGS ARE :) :) That only took me 2 days lol. I'm well impressed
mikkydoos Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) On this machine, go into your wireless config, hold your finger down on your network SSID, Select 'Modify', tick 'Advanced' scroll down and its there at the bottom of the list. Literally took me 2 days to find it 'cos the whole of the net says it doesn't support proxies, but hey it does. Edited March 12, 2012 by mikkydoos 2

Bananas Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 Many tabs have done that since Honeycomb however there is no guarantee that proxy setting will work with everything installed on that tablet, having said that i've not found anything yet that didn't work....
ricki Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Hi What you could do is put a transparent proxy in so that it thinks its talking to the internet directly on port 80. We are trying this at the moment and using firehol to forward the port 80 to the 8080 of the proxy. Its not very tansparent when they get the block screens but the computer thinks it is. Richard
mikkydoos Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 No probs m8. Nobody on the planet seems to think its does proxy's ?????
Bananas Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 I think that's because before Honeycomb it was down to the manufacturer to put proxy support in, Samsung did for one, HTC didn't. I noticed it in Honeycomb and it's def now there in ICS. I think another 12 months time once the unification of Android is more complete a lot of these issues will go away which is Androids biggest problem to date the fragmentation.
Haptic Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Hi Bananas, Subject to volume we might well be able to help with some demo units, i'll drop you a line to discuss further. Thanks, Mark
plexer Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 What are peoples thoughts on this one: Scroll Extreme Tablet PC - Tablets | Ebuyer.com Ben
Bananas Posted March 16, 2012 Author Posted March 16, 2012 Android Market Place not installed So not a Google certified device and definitely never going to sell at £299 (IMHO) but that's not necessarily a reason to rule it out completely but a consideration if you need Market/Play access it might need a hack and it's certainly a LOT of kit for not much money wish i'd seen this before I bought the Archos 101 G9 grrrrrrr
plexer Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Yeah Storage Options never seem to have sorted out market access wether that's cost of what I don't know, one of their other tablets did well in a gadget show round up I guess you can just sideload apps that you want. For the money it's in between the G8 rchos 101 internet tablet and the G9 101 Ben
