I've added the 'Class' field to an existing assessment template. When I check the related marksheets the column 'Class' doesn't always appear, and when it does, it doesn't always have any data in the column. This seems to be happening randomly. Any ideas?

Are you putting anything in the group filter and course link fields? Navigating to the course in course link will ensure the class names appear and linking to the course in group filter will only display students on the marksheet who are studying that course. Without the group filter the class field will be blank if the student isn't on that course.

Sorry to be pedantic (well, I am a member of the Pedantic Geeks group!) but just for clarity:

 

You must link a template to a course with the 'Course Link' field in order for the 'Class' column to display the correct classes. This also means that each template can only be linked to one course, so if for instance you had your template linked to Maths but you then added an English class marksheet, the student's Maths class would show, not their English class.

 

The group filter has no bearing on whether or not a class name is displayed, this simply restricts the students that are shown on each marksheet by that filter. You can filter by course, but as you'll probably be using classes as marksheets anyway this is not necessary - only the members of that class will show by definition. A more common use is to filter for a year group, so that if for instance you were creating an assessment sheet for Y11, adding a course overview sheet would show only Y11 and not Y10 doing the same course.

 

Hope that makes sense! The easiest way is to experiment with it; you can't do any harm simply by adding filters
