Hi all,

I’m looking just looking for some advice! I’ve been an IT technician for about a year now and feeling like i need a bigger challenge or to just learn something that will help me progress in the future! Although i’m not even sure which route to take at the moment! I’m wanting to learn more about Windows Server 2008, AD, group policy etc and also virtualisation. Would there be anything else that would be really useful to learn?? Thinking of maybe setting up a virtual lab with vmware, but not sure where to start to be honest??Advice would be much appreciated! :)

Thanks!

Have a look at the 70-640 exam. I am studying that at the moment and covered Windows Server 2008 R2: Active Directory. You get to learn about the OS, group policy, AD and useful labs too. MS TechNet has great free online labs too which are well worth it.

VM's are also useful. Try setting up a DC with AD, add a replica DC, add a couple of Win 7 clients and try breaking things then fixing them. Experience on the job is also very useful.
