One of my technicians has prescriptions regularly. She was only recently told about this and now she is saving money by buying one of these certificates on a regular basis.

 

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC. The charge for a single prescription item is £7.40, whereas a three month PPC will cost you £29.10 and a 12 month PPC £104.00.

 

A PPC covers you for all of your own NHS prescriptions, no matter how many items you need.

Yup, great thing. You only make 10 payments of £10.40 so two months free.....

 

I have had one for the last 3 years.

I was advised by my doc to have one of these while they were balancing my meds, they would change my doses pretty much fortnightly which would have cost me about £30-£45 a month. Saved me a fortune.

I too get one, due to my medicine costing roughly £52 a fortnight

Looking into this at the moment now our maternity freeness has run out. I'm finding it particularly annoying that as a family, it doesn't appear as if one of these cards would cover both me and my wife. At £7.65 a pop, it's a hell of a lot of money, especially with only one (my) income

Annoyingly, my prescription requirements fall just short....I've worked it out and I would pay pretty much the same either way

Their system is fubar. One income, 2 lots of prescriptions - the PPC would be ideal if it covered us both. But it doesnt, so we're forced to pretty much lose 100 quid a year :/

 

Then again, it's not just their system. The whole tax credit ripoff, jobseekers, benefits system is 100% broken and I can't for the life of me understand why they continue with it (other than because people let them get away with it). And yes, I also understand that the tax credit system means they don't have to pay some people back because they CBA.
