I would make a joke-esque comment about Haiku and experimental OS'... But I can't formulate a good one. Possibly. That's not like me to miss sarcasm! Miss sarcasm? Is that like Miss world?

Dos_Box Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 OK, let's get this thread back on track again We do have an open source session which I'm sure you will all enjoy as it involves something that I'm sure you will all be talking about. Licensing. Microsoft will be coming but will be speaking about other things (W8 and Server 8 have been mentioned). TBH to do a session on licensing would be rather dry and dull. What we could do is ask if they would bring a licensing bod with them so you could question them during the breaks if you like? My brother (Drummer_Boy) has agreed to speak once more about the latest developments in the DPA, particularly those involving the new 'cookie' laws and websites. And as per usual, SmoothWall will be there to talk about the latest web and security threats. This still leaves us with several free slots, so if you can think of anything at all that would be not only interesting, but orginal than please feel free to suggest it. 1

I'm sure a whole session about licensing would be horrible, but then licensing is... a q&a was all I wanted, so i'm happy with the plan! I'm also intrigued to hear what MS' plan is with w8, it doesn't look desktop friendly!

The last thing we need is a 'speed-bump' session that may just throw everyone, which is what I suspect Licensing would do. As for W8, we'll just have to see, although the latest blogs and videos show it getting more desktop friendly, we'll just have to wait and see, at least at the conf you can get the information you require from the horses mouth.
localzuk Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Something about the use of tablets in education would probably be good, with a bit of both the curriculum side of their use and the management side too - as many of us hear 'devils own spawn' when 'tablet' is mentioned still.

Whilst Raspberry Pi is on the cards, it does not really fit into this area due to the fact it is planned to be an introduction and techincal session. What you are suggesting I think is more policy and guidelines. I shall note this down and do some digging for a suitably qualified speaker.

For me (and I may be losing my geek status by saying this!), I'm more interested in the policy, guidelines, implementation side of things than the raw technical. Yes, a talk on the nuts and bolts of a Raspberry Pi or the upcoming features of the iPhone 5 would be interesting on some level, but what would be more useful to me professionally would be talks on how these things can actually be used in schools.
