We have an old Windows Server 2000 which I want to migrate to a virtual machine. Would like to either do this in Hyper V or even Virtual Box. Simple question - anyone had to do this ? If so - run into any problems and what P to V tools did you use ?

Thanks.

What is it running? If its something like a database i would stop the services during conversion.

If its a DC (I doubt it will but you never know) and there is more than one in the domain I wouldn't convert it to be honest, can cause lots of issues.

Have done it before - our old 2000 server was running something called bookingpro (or something simlar) - as said already I just stoped all the services on the sever and did a live P2V using VMWare converter (at the time).

Ran it inside a VirtualBox VM until I got everything moved over to MRBS.

Now adays I'd just do it using SCVMM onto Hyper-V (as far as I understand 2000 runs fine in Hyper-V).
