MACIT Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Is anyone out there using Sims communication Log? We are trying to use it to keep track of students communication (phonecall from home to home, comments from Heads of year) etc etc etc The logic of Sims communication log seems to be escaping me as it does seem to function in any logical way - either that or its just plane broke. Does anyone use any other software for this?

The two people on this thread. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/86554-communications-log.html There are a few threads on the SupportNet forums regarding this. We don't use it, and generally i've heard it doesn't quite do what people require of it.
matt40k Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Did you know about... the communications log and emergency alert in SIMS? In this short video, Natasha Marsh, SIMS Product Manager, demonstrates how to keep a communication log within SIMS of the conversations with parents as well as the emergency alert feature which allows you to send urgent messages between staff. View the demonstration of the communications log and emergency alert feature. Either it's good timing or Capita are reading EduGeek
pubgrub277 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 We use it. Find it quite helpful to follow up actions and get a complete idea of what events have happened with students. Ideally staff log a BMR, action a followup, inform parents, complete the log. Then we can track it all.

I haven't managed to implement it successfully, as it doesn't seem to display any links between children and adults. So Dave Smith rings re his son John Smith and 3 Dave Smiths are offered. Too much risk of picking the wrong one. This also happens when scheduling reports (get offered ALL people in Sims but no role indicated for them), and also linked adults on SEN. Capita have not adjusted their software since AD brought many mord people in as users of the system.
pubgrub277 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Yeah, that's a change that would dramatically improve the use of the log. I have to insist that staff ensure they link it to the student (rather than just a parent for that very reason) so that we can always find the correct records.
MACIT Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 I have now made headway with this and my only remaining issue is that of reporting - I have created a custom report to show entries for a student which works ok but i cannot get it to report on Confidential Entries, It seems just to miss them out despite the fact i have permission to view them. Any thoughts anyone?
