It looks like Kim Dotcom is to launch a new file sharing service called 'Mega' with no US hosting, ISP etc: Uh-oh! Kim Dotcom is back with a brand new Megaupload site ? The Register

 

Given the problems people have had getting their legitimate data from Megaupload since it closure I wonder how many are going to use me.ga?

I hate to use this phrase, but 'there is a market for it'. What does seem interesting is the fact that all data is encrypted and none of the Mega staff will have access to the files thereby ensuring that the site owners will genuinely have no knowledge of the content stored there.

Equally, if not more blame for that situation can be put at the feet of the US government. Remember it was raided by the FBI, and they have the data now.

Don't think that'd hold water - as other sites which simply *link* to data (ie. act as an index) have been judged to be facilitating copyright infringement. So, Me.ga maintaining a database of file names, sizes etc... could still be classified as them facilitating infringement.
