We have a second site it is going to be connected up (finally) to the internet via an ADSL broadband connection, however, I was wondering what I could use for a filter as the site is some distance away and it will be difficult to control?

Something simple would be best as we would rarely be able to get to the second site to fix anything. I'll have a look at OpenDNS. I want to make sure any internet connection they use is contrained if I use VPN couldn't they just use a machine on the router to get "normal" access without using the VPN at all?

If you put in a routing table on the router to send all traffic to your site it would be as if they were on the same LAN as you - they wouldn't have internet access. You'd need a decent router ( cisco 870 series or equivelant) cheap SOHO wouldn't do it.

The advantage would be you only have on filter to maintain and it would be easier to remote manage pc's. disadvantage would be the hit on your bandwidth, but you can always charge them for that.

otherwise Dansguardian/squid as a transparent proxy would work

Ah right I get what you mean will need to open up a port or two at this end for that. Right I'll have a look at both.

Thanks Guys.
