Install Software onto Multiple Machines

Hi All,

 

How do you install software across the network? I have about 100 machines that I need to install new Software to but I don't want to have to go round them all individually. I used to use Advanced Installer and create MSI's out of the Software, but now because I haven't used it for so long I don't have a clue what I am doing with it.

 

The Clients are Windows 7, The Server is 2008 R2

if you have an msi you can usually just use active directory. Create/edit a policy computer settings (or user if thats how you want it done)software settings software installation then on the right side of the gpmc windows right click new package and point it at the msi (needs to be in a share that auth users have access to)

Bung the MSi on a share where everyone has read permission.

 

Then make a new Group Policy Object.

 

Edit the object, find Computer Configuration, Policies, Software Settings, Software Installation. Right click on SOftware Installation, you can then select your package (if you're on the same server that the MSi is shared from make sure you select it via the share). I'd recommend testing it on a single PC first.

I should have explained it better. MSI's are fine and I can deploy those no problem. Its when the Installer is an exe I am not sure what the best way to put this across the network is.

 

Sometimes the programs need you to enter the licence after it has been installed.. so really the software would need to almost take a snap shot of the machine after the software has been installed and then this can be pushed out to all the rest.

If I can't find a "silent install" switch or similar on an EXE installer I use AutoIt to make and installer script that goes step-by-step through the EXE installer, pressing buttons and filling in details as it goes:
