Hi,

We want to improve parent communication. All parents have FB.

Is it possible to create a school FB group where we can post updates about the school, and have parents join or view the page, but not let them comment or add things to the school page?

Thanks.

Our website has a link to a Facebook page.

It is possible for visitors [parents, students and teachers] to post comments to the page.

Our webmaster moderates the page. However I seem to remember a conversation with him where he said that he could prevent any new content from being added. I can check and get back to you if you like.

I have both a school facebook account and also a school twitter account. With the facebook account i just made a page when signed on as myself. I have then made one of the assistant heads an admin and he now does all the news messages to parents.

Yeh we have facebook and twitter accounts.

The facebook page only allows us to create news and people comment though. So we dont let people write on the wall.

You can stop other people from adding new content to the wall, but you cannot proactively stop people adding comments to existing content. You can reactively remove comments or ban individual user accounts.

Screenshot of the current permissions screen if that's any use:

We have a facebook page that updates our twitter page when posts have been made.

As has been said above, general users cant make new posts but are able to comment on existing posts made by a site administrator.

I know there are loads of ways to do this but how do you do it?

I have just had a chat with our webmaster. His solution is similar to what others have already said. He moderates the Facebook page removing any unsuitable comments.

He has built an app that pulls new tweets across [via RSS] so that he does not have to make duplicate entries.

HTH.
