Remote Desktop Services on FRDC Server?

Hi, I would like to add the server role Remote Desktop Services to my 2008 R2 server.

When I attempt to install it, it warns me:

Installing Remote Desktop Session Host with Active Directory Domain Services is not recommended because allowing users to run programs on a domain controller can increase security risks and degrade server performance.

 

Does any one else run this on their main server? Should I be concerned?

It is years since I have used terminal services - always used to use it on the frdc before.

We already have HyperV installed also on this server.

Any help would be great.

I would like to set up some virtualised versions of Windows 7 for clients to access and also possibly use software deployment services.

SO you wont want RD on the server - youll want to build a virtual Win 7 machine and allow them to RDP that.

Yup - don't use RDP for users on your DC! New VM with Windows 7 and plenty of power behind it.

Can I run a vm on the dc server via Hyper-V?

Or will it need to be on a different physical server?

As long as they're connecting to a different server it'll be fine, so a VM would work. Personally I wouldn't host that on my DC itself, but I don't think there's a technical reason not to.
