Anyone got any recommendations for an ad blocker for Android (Honeycomb) tablets?

I tried Adfree after rooting and it wasn't all that great. It blocked a few ads in apps. Sometimes you just get a black box where the ad would go, so it's not like you reclaim any screen space. In a game like Scrabble, where you get a full screen 10 second ad after each move, Adfree didn't skip the add and jump back to the game, but, instead, either showed and ad anyhow, or just had a blank screen for 10 seconds. I've not tried AdAway, so I can't speak to that.

 

The most useful thing for me with AdBlock Plus in Firefox on my desktop computer is that for sites that stream video, like news sites, the commercial at the start of each clip is actually skipped and you get right to the news clip. I don't think there's anything like that for Android.

 

As the lifehacker article points out, you can only do blocking in the browser if you're not rooted.

White would be nicer, but I'd be happy with that. I'm not wanting one to reclaim screen space, more just to tidy the view up - I'd forgotten how brightly-coloured Facebook is with ads :-)

 

I haven't rooted the tablet though, and am inclined not to unless I really need to (and an ad blocker isn't sufficient reason).

Just put a list of ad servers into the host file? Which you can find =&startdate[month]=&startdate[year]="]here.

 

You'll have to grab it via adb and then remount the filesystem rw to modify it though then push it back.

I suspect the apps with the full screen ads are going to pose this problem no matter how you block them as they are hard coded into the application. Take Com2Us's Slice It as an example. I play this game offline and with adblock running yet i still get ads related to other Com2Us games.
