HI

Adaware is by lavasoft and is designed to remove malware. Why would sophos want to remove it Ad-Aware by Lavasoft - Antivirus software, free spyware removal, firewall

Have a look at spybot search and destroy thats what I use for adware and spyware. The home of Spybot-S&D!

Plus have a look on the sophos console under policies and right click the policy that the computer belong to and click view edit. Click configure under online scanning click the scanning tab and check the adaware tick box.

It depends on the nature of the problem - virus, malware, rootkit, browser hijacker, they all behave in different ways and some are easier to remove than others.

It's fairly common you need to perform a full scan to remove the problem. With Sophos for example, you can schedule this over lunchtime for example.

HI

Some malware locks files and cannot be removed. Some others store themselves in the recover files that cannot be removed because they are locked. Some can be removed by turning off the system recovery / scanning and removing and then turn it back on. Others can only be removed by using Sophos Bootable Anti-Virus: download and CD creation instructions a boot cd, or other programs like spybot search and destroy or lavasafts adaware.
