To be honest, back in '88, I was on detachment to HMS Ark Royal, from the RAF, and I saw something quite similar. In a force 9 gale, off the north of Scotland, I was on the flight deck watching Harriers take off and land. I've never been more impressed than when seeing them put one of those on the deck, when the ship is rolling around in the swell. Makes me wish they'd had camera phones, and youtube, back then!
