Copy DV tapes to DVD

I didi this last year, except i used my own hardware.

 

1 DV camcorder

1 Firewire Cable

1 Macbook pro with 2GB RAM

 

All i did was connect the Camcorder straight the the Macbook pro and captured the footage straight to HDD in iMovie. No lossed frames and audio synched perfectly. Once captured footage then edited but to a minimum as it cannot be edited for GCSE exam so i was told, and sent to iDVD for menu system. Created menu system and then burn DVD. In all took around 3 hours.

 

I know its not the cheapest but is perhaps the easiest. I had DVD quality and full control over the whole process, with full access to editing the content and never had to record and re-capture the whole content afterwards saving lots of time. This i found was the real issue, time-saving as ours was late being entered (course-work). We also did the same on the day of the exam. Capture-wise i mean not late.

 

We also never needed any DV tapes or additional software.

interesting thread

i have used a firewire card to capture to a pc. I hate the quality loss with apps such as nero vision and windows movie maker (still ok for most)

whats the best way to ensure the dv quality is retained even after editing the video and exporting to a dvd

It records straight to mov drop it into Final cut edit and burn no time wasted transcoding, no pants DV tapes All in HD, Yes its costly but the workflow is super quick especially if you are doing it a lot and need to turn around raw footage to tape quickly.

We use a JVC DV/HDD/DVD copier, had it about 2 years now, cost a bomb when we got it but it saves a hell of a lot of hassle, also have a video/DVD copier incase teacher need to update their technology
