The SENCO at our school has recently been on a course. At the course they mentioned that SEN kids work well if they are given a laptop. My SENCO would now like a couple of laptops for her SEN kids. Naturally, it is down to me to find them.

These kids do not have learning difficulties in the "I can't do reading and writing way". They have ADHD and Tourettes and, in one case, both. So, I need a laptop that could withstand pretty much anything. I know that there are some pretty good bomb-proof ones out here, but they all come at a price.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good make of laptop that was fairly hardy, or that was specifically designed for quite a rough life, without it costing a lot? Although I wouldn't normally touch them with a barge pole, I was surprised that RM didn't create such a thing...or am I wrong?

You could also look into getting them insured, I just got complete cover including damage for less than £100 a laptop for 3 years.

I know its not the solution you were after but an alternative non the less :)

You could always go down the line of a Panasonic Toughbook. Like you say, they aren't cheap!

I expect that ICT Direct could probably find a couple of second user ones for a reduced price. Let's face it, what are the chances of a Toughbook being in poor second hand condition?
