Password Protect USB Disk

Hi,

 

We have a new ICT policy that tells staff about data protection and taking files home (not written by me).

 

A few staff have now asked is there a way to password protect a memory stick rather than doing every individual document. I know some usb sticks have software to do it but they are not all the same stick. I was wondering if there is some generic software?

Encryption is what you should be thinking not just password protection.

We have been using this for ages and it can be accessed from a network share also

Take a look at bitlocker and truecrypt

Bitlocker to Go is great if everyone has Windows 7, we have had some staff compalin that they can't save to their encrypted drives because they only have Vista or even XP.

 

We still enforced it though.

Not OS dependent and can be opened / closed from a batch file (desktop shortcut) - see elsewhere on here. It's also free.

indeed mats, in our situation though, we enforce that memory sticks must be encrypted, so you cannot save to an unencrypted memory stick in the school only read from it. Truecrypt couldnt do this.

 

We encrypt laptops with truecrypt though.
