Looking for more info on TS CALs; 2003 vs. 2008

It is my understanding that 2003 TS CALs cannot be installed on a 2008 server. Since I currently have a 2003 TS server in place and have built a new 2008 TS server, am I allowed to "trade in" my 2003 licenses for 2008 licenses? Is a trade-up allowed by Microsoft Clearing and is it done at no cost or am I going to be required to purchase new 2008 licenses outright?

Are you under a Perpetual volume licensing agreement? Such as the Microsoft Schools Agreement/EES Agreement?

No, we are not.

In that case I believe you can't upgrade CALS' which means you would need to purchase new Cals.
