Ok, so my boss has agreed to buy me a netbook to replace my aging laptop. I want a netbook as I quite often cycle to work so want something small and light.

I have a budget of £300 (ex vat)

What can you guys recommend?

I would like the following

Minimum 2GB RAM

Decent Processor

10" or 11" screen

Good resolution screen

minimum 160GB HD

Im not bothered what OS will come with it as it'll be dual booted with a few w7 installations anyway

Ive been looking at the Acer Aspire One 722 which looks impressive. Any other recommendations?

Thankfully, a netbook doesn't mean an Atom processor any more. That little Acer looks okay, though the C-50 would still be a bit weak for my tastes. At least it's dual core. Save up and whack an SSD in it to transform the performance too.

For me, as I love my X100e, I'd get Kikatek.com | (NWS5RUK) Lenovo ThinkPad X121e 11.6 inch Ultraportable Notebook PC AMD Fusion (E-350) 1.6GHz 4GB 320GB WLAN BT Webcam Windows 7 HP 64-bit (AMD Radeon HD 6310) which uses the Fusion E-350. Battery life less, power in a different league though.

I would recommend the Toshiba NB550D-111 Netbook PC.

AMD Dual-Core Processor C-60 - 1.3GHz and AMD Radeon™ HD 6290 Graphics.

It only comes with 1GB RAM but you can add another to it to bring it up to the 2GB.

Not the biggest netbook fan to be honest with you, but this is the best of the bunch I think at the minute.....without getting into silly money territory.

Hope it helps.

I'm setting up a couple of Samsung 300U netbook/laptops. 4Gb ram, Intel 967 CPU. 320Gb hard drive, BT, webcam. Speedy little machines. Just a little over the £300 ex vat limit though, but not by much.

Speak to your suppliers, you may be able to nail one of them right down. Bear in mind that there are multiple models - the top one having a dual core with plenty or RAM, 3G modem with GPS etc, where the lower ones may only have a single core, smaller HDD etc. NWS5XUK seems to be the daddy, and is less than £300+VAT.
