Is there a way of configureing Outlook to connect to exchange at logon?

Morning all,

 

My LEA kindly provide a hosted exchange solution for schools (Currently Exchange 2003)

 

I'd like to set up a script/GPO to connect the user to their account at logon so that when the user opens outlook their mail is just there for them.

 

Does anyone have a suggestion on the best way to do this??

I think, although it's been a couple of years since I've looked at Outlook/Exchange and not in a hosted solution, you need to go along the lines of an Outlook Preference file - a quick guide here, although I've never had to set one up myself it was already there when I started. Once you have your preference, if you have the Outlook adm/admx gpo imported you should be able to specify the preference file location to automatically configure the user's Outlook system.

PRF is thw way to do it, although Exch 2003/Outook is kind of old now. 2007/2010, then you would have benefits of autodiscover. They are abit behind. Maybe if you have time/budget, consider installing your own Exch on-prem or consider, Live@Edu if it meets your needs.

We have our own Exchange server here, using GPO we have the outlook profiles redirected to the roaming profile IE in the roaming AppData folder so once they have logged in and setup Outlook (Autodiscover so its just click click next) it's saved to the profile so no matter where they log onto on the network outlook automatically starts when they login and logs them straight into outlook so they just need to click it if need be and they are straight into there email.
