Login's slowly slowing down. Clean accounts as well.

Hi,

 

We introduced a new system over the summer holiday and when it was first put in it seemed fine.

 

Recently however thing have started to slow down. Even on our test account that has a clean profile seems to take ages to log in.

 

Users get stuck on the welcome screen.

 

Can anyone think of a reason for this?

I think slow logons are the bain of IT technicians around the world.

 

When the system was first introduced were the logons fast? Try taking a PC out of the domain and then putting it back in.

That usually works for me for a while.

Also take a look at the Event Logs of said PC's and Server see if there are any problems logged at the same time.

Group Policy, Admin Templates, System, Verbose vs normal status messages = Enabled

This will give you more info about what's going on.

Could be a script or drive/print mapping looking for something that's no longer there - this often causes a long delay before timing out.

I used this when ours were running slowly (although depends on your OS, are you on XP or Vista \ 7?)

Found a 20 second lag from our Kaspersky Network Agent which had a known workaround... you should be able to do something similar and see if it's getting stuck on a startup program, driver, folder \ profile redirection etc...

types of profiles ?

for e.g. , our mandatorys are around 1.5mb in size and take on average 7-12 seconds to login ( fully login with all programs finished loading)

 

Is this slow ? or good i dont know but its more than good for me !

 

Do you have a ATI graphics card ? we once had a problem with long login times on machines with ATI cards , was something to do with one of there services they install with the Drivers.
